Matte-Shadow material tutorial in 3d studio max.

MATTE-SHADOW MATERIAL


CAN WE PLACE A 3D OBJECT IN 2D IMAGE IN 3D STUDIO MAX ?


Yes, We can. Today we learn such types of amazing effect through Matte-Shadow material and learn that How can place a 3D object in 2D image or background  through Mental ray renderer in 3d studio max. Matte-Shadow material also create a real environment shadow in 2D image this is a special effect in this material.O.K. Now  we start from place a 2D image and create background.




  • Go to >>MENU>>RENDERING>>ENVIRONMENT
Change its color BLACK and Click on NONE from below  Environment map and select an appropriate bitmap image for background from our library or .

  • Change Perspective view port setting as per below image for insert environment bitmap image into the background. (Right click on Smooth+Highlights from view port Top left. )




Now its time for Add 3d model to view port. First, We create a plane object and insert or modeling an object or model to the view port and set it. (You must Rotate, Move and Scale the object for set it to bitmap surface like we really see that our 3D object stands on 2D image surface.)

GIVE MATTE-SHADOW MATERIAL :

  • Select PLANE object and Press 'M' for call up Material editor and select an Empty slot.
  • Give Matte/Shadow/Reflection material from Mental ray material to the Empty slot. (See below image )



CAMERA MAPPING :


In the Camera Mapped Background Change color to BLACK and Drag Environment map from Environment background ( As per below image ) to Camera Mapped Background in material editor.



GIVE SHADOW TO THE 2D IMAGE :

Now, We are going to give shadow to the 2D image from create a SKY LIGHT and TARGET SPOT LIGHT from the Top view and change the Shadow setting. 



 .


Click on RENDER from MENU >> RENDERING >> RENDER

OR

Press F9 for quick Render.

3ds max opacity map tutorial-How can i create a transparent glass.


HOW TO MAKE AN OBJECT TRANSPARENT ?



HELLO....

3ds max has many different types of map in standard material. Opacity map is among them.We know that opacity means transparency. Amount of opacity map decide the value of transparency of the object.This is very easy to use this map. Hit 'M 'for open the material editor and give material to object (Box) with use 'Assign material to selection'.Now go to MAP  and select Opacity map. (see image)


After assign material to object now we should the change amount of opacity. Opacity amount 100 means object maximum transparent value and Opacity amount 0 (zero) means object fully visible. You also change the map by choose any texture or image to opacity map.Here i give the texture of square glazed tiles to opacity map.


SET THE OPACITY AMOUNT -0 (ZERO)

3ds max tutorial -Learn standard material-Shader property



INTRODUCTION - 
DIFFERENT TYPES OF MATERIAL           SHADER IN 3D STUDIO MAX





Hi friends,

This tutorial give you a chance to make some simple material and apply them to object in your precious scene in 3d studio max for high quality render. This is The very simple, easy and default material type.

WHY USING THE STANDARD MATERIAL AND SHADER

Standard material are the default material type in 3d  studio max. it has ambient, diffuse,  specular, and filter color swatches. shaders material is such preset type material which can give some original material effect easily.

standard material have parameters for controlling glossiness, highlights, self illuminating, opacity, . they also include many other parameters in different roll out. they save us much time in preparing your scene.

3d studio max include several different shader ( shown in image).

HOW USE MATERIAL SHADER

These shader are all available in a drop down list in the shader basic parameters roll out at the top of the parameters editor panel in the slate material editor. The slate material editor is opened using also the rendering >material editor>slate material editor menu command or the hit M key.each shader type display different option and parameters in its respective basic parameter roll out.other available shader include anisotropic, metal, multi-layer, oren-nayar-blinn, phong,strauss and translucent shader.

ANISOTROPIC SHADER 

Most of the parameters for this shader are the same like blinn shader. but some parameters of this shader are different. the diffuse level value decide how bright the diffuse color appears. this is the similar like self illumination. but it does not affect the specular highlights or the shadow of course. value can range from the 0 to 400

compared with the blinn shader, the specular highlight graphs looks very different. That is because at displays two highlights components that intersect the middle. The specular level value still controls the height of the curves, and the glossiness still control the width. but the anisotropic value change the width of one axis relative to the other, The orientation value rotates the highlight.
This shader is a default. It render simple circular highlights and smooth adjacent faces.

BLINN SHADER

The blinn shader includes color swatches for setting ambient, diffuse, specular, and self illumination colors. to change the colors, click the color swatches and select a new color in the color selector dialog box.

METAL SHADER

The metal shader simulates the luster of metallic surface. The highlight curves has a shape that is different from the other shader it does not include soft value. it has also much higher value than other shader. other all parameter is same to other.

MULTI LAYER  SHADER

The multi layer shader has two types of anisotropic highlights. both highlights have a different color, parameters for this are the same as anisotropic basically. except that there are two specular level and other Roughness. The roughness parameter define how well the diffuse color blends into the ambient color. Roughness is set to a value of 0, an object appears the same as with the blinn shader , but it set to 100, the material going to dark.

OREN-NAYAR-BLINN SHADER 

This shader is very useful for the material type of matte surface such as paper, clothes etc . The parameters is similar to the blinn shader, with the addition of the diffuse level and roughness.

PHONG SHADER

The phong shader create a smooth surfaces like blinn without a quality highlight, but it render time more quickly than the blinn shader. The parameters for the phong shader are basic like the blinn shader. The difference between blinn and phong are very slight, but blinn can produce highlights for lights at low angles to the surfaces, and its highlights are softer.

STRAUSS SHADER

The strauss shader provides metal surface. This shader has only four parameter. 1. color 2. glossiness 3. metalness 4. opacity. glossiness control the entire highlights shape. The metalness value makes the material appear more metal-like by affecting the primary and secondary highlights. both of these value can range between 0 and 100.

TRANSLUCENT SHADER 

The translucent sahder simple allows lights to easily through an object like window. it is intended to be used on thin , flat plane objects. such as window curtain etc. likely all setting is most of same to other. with extra translucent color. This color is the color that the light becomes as it passes through an object with this material applied. This shader also include a filter color.

3ds max tutorial - introduction material properties


 UNDERSTAND MATERIAL PROPERTIES IN 3D STUDIO MAX 





Hi friends.....

                        In 3D studio max, before start to learn about different type of material. We must know about its properties.when we create some natural and real rendering generally its all about lights and assign material. In architectural or interior scene. We need always assign material to clothes, body parts, liquid like as water, wine, dirty water etc.just as material in real life can be described as scaly, soft, smooth,opaque,or blue material applied to objects can mimic properties such as color, texture, transparency, shininess and so on in this tutorial i learn you the basic of working with the material and all the features of its properties. In 3d studio max there is most important part of material properties. So, let's begin and start to know about material properties.


COLORS OF OBJECTS

In basic, color is the simplest material property and the easiest to identify on any objects, however unlike the objects color defined in the create and modify panel, there is not a single color swatch that controls an objects color. Consider a box of white balls. when you shine a bright blue spotlight on them, all the balls turn blue. Because the blue highlights from the light mix with the white surface so, even if the balls are assigned a white material, the final color of the image might be very different because the light makes the color change. It means the light color may change the material color which is assign to the object.


OPACITY

First we know that opaque objects are objects that you can not see though. Such as house or stone etc. and a second side ,are objects you can see through such as water, plastic, glass etc. 3ds max material a several control for adjusting this properties of opaque. Including opacity and several transparency controls.

Opacity is the amount that an object refuse to allow light to pass through it. It is the opposite of transparency and its typically measured as a percentage. An object is 0 percentage opacity is the completely transparent and an object is 100 percent opacity is like such as a solid. Which is not trans parable.

Yes, Transparency is the amount of light that is allowed to pass through an object. Because this is the opposite of opacity.transparency can be defined by the opacity value. 3ds studio max give us several option enable you to control transparency. Including fall of, amount and type.etc.


REFLECTION

A reflection mean is what you can see when  you look in the mirror. Shiny objects reflect there surrounding.different objects reflect different type. Some objects reflect low such as copper, brass, iron etc and some objects reflection properties is high such as stain less steel, glass, ice etc.here we also control reflection amount for high or low reflection.

REFRACTION

The amount of reflection that a material produces is expressed as a value called the index of refraction is the amount of light bends as it goes through the transparent objects. The default index of refraction value is 1.0. (which is fully in solid form) Different type of object may different type of index value or amount. Such as water, wine,ice, glass etc.


SPECULAR  HIGHLIGHT

Shiny objects, such as polished metal, chrome, water, tiles etc types of objects. Include highlights where the lights reflect off their surfaces. These highlights are called speculate highlights and are determined by its settings. These settings include its level,glossiness and soften value.

Its level settings for the setting for the intensity of the highlight. The glossiness determines the size of the highlight. Higher glossiness value result in a smaller highlights and the soften value thins the highlights by lowering its intensity and increasing its size.


SHININESS

A glossy objects has shininess these object include such type of metals, stainless steel, plastic, glass, copper, brass etc. and a rough object has no shininess and it is opposite properties of shininess, object include rough stone, wall,brick etc.

There is other also properties of objects diffuse color, ambient color, its texture sharpness or softness etc.
